Asiri Holdings Lanka (Pvt) Ltd was incorporated on 5 August 1999 and entered into the agricultural machinery and equipment business in July 2003 with industry experience and a clear vision to serve the needs of the agricultural industry. The company has and operates a fully equipped workshop and Factory named “Kalana Engineering Technologies”, which undertakes all types of Production, assembly, repair, and agricultures machinery service work in addition to providing an efficient after-sales service facility to its existing brand portfolio of tractors and other machinery and equipment. The founder, Mr. Wijesiri, and the top management have extensive knowledge and know-how pertaining to the agricultural sector, industry-specific machinery as well as the associated risks and drawbacks in serving the industry. Presently it sells a brand based on a cost leadership strategy twinned with excellence in service delivery. “Asiri” is a stable and well-known name when it comes to the agricultural needs of the eastern province and other agricultural parts of Sri Lanka. The Eastern Province has a primarily agriculture-based economy and is commonly known as the Granary of Sri Lanka. It contributes 25% of national paddy production, 17% of national milk production, and 21% of national fish production. Maize cultivation is expanding; large-scale maize cultivation with hybrid seeds and contractual marketing has increased production significantly and targeted to produce 25% of the country’s maize requirement. The Industrial sector contributed 34% of the Province’s GDP.

The people of this province mostly rely on their agriculture and farming. The Company has worked with these families for umpteen years. This makes very close to them creating a bond that goes beyond the customer and seller relationship. The project proposed to identify the needs of farmers and their hardships; the company has decided to expand the factory to cater to their growing needs. The products of Nine Tine Tillers, 3 Disk Plough, Y Bar Plough, Finger Millet Thresher, Seed Paddy Cleaner, Maize Threshers, Tractor Bowsers, Harvester Low Bed Trailers, Seed Dryers, and other agriculture machinery build cost-effectively with providing 98 jobs. Further, the business has planned to start a Mechanical training center to serve technical knowledge and product knowledge for anyone who comes to the training center.

Eastern Province’s Ampara district in Sri Lanka is the second-largest producer of rice in the country. With such a great dependence on paddy farming, and given the area’s increased use of mechanized farming, the manufacture and service of higher-tech agricultural equipment have become increasingly important to local residents. Asiri Group of Companies has excelled in meeting this need.

The parent company, Asiri, was already a well-established business in Ampara, operating for nearly 22 years as a service agent and distributor of spare parts for agricultural equipment.

In February 2015, Asiri opened a new factory for their agricultural machinery repair and retail operation in Ampara. Named Kalana Engineering Technologies for creating new jobs in the region. Kalana’s growth will enable them to deliver more services that are comprehensive, have greater convenience, and lower costs to their customers.

The latest trend in Sri Lankan agriculture mainly depends on agricultural machinery comes at a considerable cost. 90% of agricultural machinery available in Sri Lanka is imported from China, Pakistan, and India. The farmers usually buy the machinery on an installment basis with easy payment terms, meaning the hard-earned money of the farmers doesn’t stay in the country instead it is being shipped overseas.

The company has identified that these farmers can go for a Sri Lankan product, which will come at a lower cost and higher quality and efficiency. This will help the country’s economy as well as the farmers who spend the rest of their lives on paying for the financial debt.

We aim to produce our own machinery in Sri Lanka, in partnership with the Farm Mechanization Research Centre (FMRC) in Sri Lanka and the Agriculture Department of Sri Lanka, and with the relevant funds, we will be able to undertake this project. This project has great value to the country and the livelihood of the Sri Lankan agricultural community.
